Clinical incidents

Clinical incidents form a wide spectrum, from the 'probably weekly' sore throat to the 'unlikely in my career' malignant hyperpyrexia.

Information on critical incidents in the intermediate curriculum is fairly sparse, asking trainees to "build on the knowledge and skills learnt during basic training".

Turning then to the core training curriculum, one is led to a much richer list of topics to cover.

Learning the practicalities of dealing with these incidents will be beneficial, as questions on critical incidents have come up in six of the past twelve SAQ/CRQ papers.

Furthermore, being able to deal with these untoward events in a calm and precise fashion is part of the raison d'ĂȘtre of being an anaesthetist.
